Why is chino backing out?
ReplyDeleteChino is backing out because he is the more responsible, caring and soft heated one out of the group. On page 39 its says "but part of me wanted to be there, to be part of it. But i had Blanca and baby to think about and i wasn't about to throw that away." this shows how chino has a girl friend who he really loves and hes is about to have ah kid with Blanca and wants to try to be the best of a father he can to her and his up coming kid. this shows that chino wants to back out because he is trying to better him self and life for not only him but for his unborn child.

CAPITALIZATION! Good quote and good explanation but you need to give the reader more context/background about the story. For example, "backing out" of what, in your question? You should write as if your reader has NOT read the story. 8/10

ReplyDeleteChino isn't accepting the offer because he knows that Bodega might be up to no good and he doesn't know what Nazzario has in store for him. Also, Blanca doesn't want Chino getting himself into anything illegal. Considering that Blanca is pregnant, Chino knows he has to make the right decision. For example, on page 38 it states "Nah, i can't. I can't man. I hope this works out for you, but i can't. I'm mad busy." This quote demonstrates how he's really trying to make up any excuse up so that Bodega can get a sense of Chino's perspective that he does not want any part of it. Especially, since Blanca is pregnant so he does it for her sake and deny's the offer.

It doesn't say anything about getting in trouble with the community. When you explain the quote you don't explain how it answers the question about Chino and Sapo. 6.5/10

ReplyDeleteChino should accept the job that Willie Bodega offered him. " Nah, nah, nothing against Sapito. But they know what he does. When I say they, I mean the community. I want someone smart and someone who has never worked a corner. And if he goes to college, all the better. A role model. Nazario the lawyer and his sidekick Julio College, both Ricans helping Ricans" (Quinonez 36). This quote shows that Bodega really wants Chino to help his lawyer. He wanted somebody who was known of not doing anything in the corner. Anyways, Bodega would not put Chino to do bad things. Chino would become Nazario's assistant and he would get more money than what he is recieving right now. The money that Bodega would give Chino could help him with the baby needs and could help around the house.
Give more context before the quote by explaining the situation he's in and why he should take the offer. You should write as if your reader hasn't read the story. 8.5/10

ReplyDeleteSapo is getting mad that Chino didn't do what Bogeda asked him to do because Sapo said all these nice things about Chino to Bodega but Chino didn't do what Bodega told him so that made Sapo look like he was saying a lie or made him look like a bad person to Bodega. 'Bodega's been looking for a guy to work with Nazarrio for some long time. And I thought of you...I told him "Nah Chino is cool. You'll like him. Hes a cool guy and smart"... and then when he meets you for the job, you get all fucked up, laugh in his face and not take job. You know how that reflects on me?" This shows how Sapo didn't like the fact that Chino didn't say yes because he thinks that Bodega will probably get mad at at Sapo because he made Bodega feel excited thinking that Chino will say yes but he really said no.

" Chino thinks that what bodega says is not gonna work because why would people make protests to bail out a drug addict and drug seller . But in the other hand bodega thought that if he goes to jail he will be invincible because people will help bail him out . But chino does'nt agree with it.

ReplyDeleteShe wants to name her daughter something biblical because she wants something like her sister. "Nope, I want something biblical, like my sister." This shows that even though her sister is not like her she wants to name her something from the bible unlike sapos real name (Julio) which he dosen't like.

Good quote, but your response is missing a lot of context and explanation. To include more context summarize what is going on in the story as if your reader had not read the book. Include this before the quote. Also, explain your quote in your own words and how it proves the point you are making in your topic sentence. 6.5/10

I disagree with that because he was worried about his relationship with Blanca and their future together. It says "But I had Blanca and he baby to think about and I wasn't about to throw that away." This shows that the marijuana affect his thinking and that he declined it because he wanted to maintain his relationship with Blanca.
Give more context and background about what is going on in the story -- imagine whoever is reading your paragraph has not read the book and explain what is going on. Check for typos -- I think you mean the marajuana "DID NOT affect his thinking" 7/10

He shows that when he say’s “And if you dare hit a latin women GOD help you.” I think chino is saying if you hit a latin women you messed up. he describes them to the point they would commit murder if you hit them. That proves that chino is is too scared to hit a latin women because they are violent. Chino sees all of that in a latin women because he was coming home late and blanca was already mad at him earlier.
The context about when he says this quote should come before the quote, not after it. Focus more on what him saying this reveals about his character, not the meaning of the quote. Saying he is "too scared" to hit a woman gives your reader the impression that it's OK to do this if the woman won't fight back, which I don't think you mean, because it's offensive. Please proofread for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors -- you lose points for these. 6.5/10

ReplyDeleteIn the story "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez why does Willie Bodega care about Veronica so much? Willie Bodega cares about Veronica so much because he wants to marry her. Veronica parents forced her to marry a guy that she didn't like . She liked and Willie Bodega but he had no exact future so Veronica parents didn't approve her marriage.In the story it says " She loved me. She said that she didn't care If I didn't have any money". This shows that Veronica loved Willie Bodega and she had no say in her marriage. Therefore Willie Bodega was looking for Vera so they can finally get married.

You'll like him. he's a cool guy and smart he goes to Huntah'. Shit like that, and then , when he meets you for the job, you get all fucked up, laugh in his face, and dont take the job. " This shows that Sapo really wanted his "brother" to work with him also he felt as if chino disrepected Bodega when he wasnt supposed to and on top of that smoked Bodega's weed and just laughed in his face without taking the job. so thats why Sapo go mad.

Bodega is influenced by the past life as a young lord. In the story, bodega is talking to chino how the young lords did good for the community (bodega was a young lord). According to the story, bodega says “we cleaned the streets… no one feared us they all loved us” (pg 32). Back when bodega was young he was a young lord and he did good for the neighborhood. Now in the present life hes trying to do good in a different way. Hes trying to sell heroin for profit and in return he renovates homes for the people in his neighborhood for a cheap price.
Great question! Make sure you answer it completely -- you don't really explain WHY the Lords are important to Bodega, just that he was a Young Lord. Make sure you answer your question completely. Otherwise, excellent post. 9/10

ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinoonez Sapo describes Chino as a great person. Sapo describes his relationship with Chino as like if they are brothers. In the text it says "This is my main-mellow-man Chino." This quote shows how Sapo and Chino treat each other as like family. This quote also show how close they are and it shows how Chino is a great person.
