Bodega is in love with Vera and wants to marry her. In this part of the quote, Chino and Bodega are talking in the "Museo Del Barrio" about Vera. For example " i'm gonna marry her this time... Of course she'll leave that pendejo." This proves that Bodega is planning to marry Veronica because he loves her. He is also very determined and won't stop until he gets what he wants. Bodega wants to be with Vera no matter what.
Vera and Bodega broke up because of Vera's mother. In this part of the quote, Bodega is explaining to Chino the history between Vera and him. For example "It was her fucken mother who pushed her."(78) This proves that since Vera's mother does not want them together,she forced Vera to marry a rich Cuban.
