Who do you think killed salazar?
ReplyDeletei think sapo killed salazar because when chino was looking in the news and when he was looking at what they were saying and once they said something, he knew exactly who it was. Also, when sapo was leaving chino in the museum, he was talking fast and suspiciously and chino didn’t care cause like it was nothing weird or anything. Also, bodega sounds suspicious too because he probably asked Salazar for a favor and he rejected it or he didn’t do it and probably bodega got mad and told one of his people to kill Salazar.

DeleteWhy does Willie Bodega thinks that he is DEFINITELY going to marry Vera?
ReplyDeleteWillie Bodega thinks that he is going to marry Vera because the husband that she is with right now, she doesn't love him. She never did. She always loved Willie but she couldn't marry him because her mom didn't want her to marry him. But now, he thinks that she is going to marry him because now he has a business and has lots of money. Back then Vera said that she didn't care that he didn't have money, what bothered her was that he didn't have no vision of how to make money in the future. "Of course she'll leave that pendejo. She never wanted to marry him in the first place. It was her fucken mother who pushed her". (78) and also "You sure she didn't at least like his money?" "Didn't i just tell you, she said that she didn't care that i didn't have money, what bothered her was that i had no vision of how to get it." (80). I think that Vera isn't going to marry Willie because i don't think that Vera is going to get divorce because since Willie said that she didn't wanted to get marry to him in the first place, maybe she is starting to grow love for him now. Besides, she got married at age 17 and Willie Bodega is in his forties, so that is a long time to grow love to her current husband. If Willie wanted to get marry with Vera, he shouldn't waited all these years to finally get her back.
I like the analysis you give about the reasons Vera might not want to marry Bodega. This is an important, original point no one has brought up yet. 9/10

ReplyDeleteEl Museo is a big deal for this meeting because they are going to talk about something important with bodega.The meeting was about how chino and sapo could help Bodega get married with Vera."B'cause, chino iam going to ask her for something when vera comes and i thought you should know me. Besides am getting married."(78) This shows that they had this meeting at El Museo to talk about Bodegas good news about him and vera getting married.
Give more explanation of the context of the story. Give deeper analysis of what's happening in the story, beyond what is obviously stated in the text. This resonse doesn't really answer the question directly, either. 6.5/10

ReplyDeleteChino knows who killed Alberto because he stated in page 82, "But I needed to find out more, on case Alberto Salazar was the same guy i had heard Bodega and Nazario talk about that night at the Taino Towers." This qoute shows how Chino has a sense of idea of who killed Alberto Salazar. And that he needed to find out more about it to get a good idea of what happend.

Sapo kills Salazar because he doesn’t want Salazar to spread out the word about who’s the drug lord in East Harlem. Chino starts wondering about who was that man who got killed. Since he heard bodega and Nazario talking about him at the Taino towers. On page 82 it says “but I needed to find out more, in case Alberto Salazar was the same guy I had heard bodega and Nazario talk about that night at the Taino towers… the report said Salazar’s body was found in the east river. He had been a reporter for El Diario/La Prensa working on an investigation of a drug lord in East Harlem… in addition to the gunshot wound; Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder. That’s when I knew who had killed him”. This piece of evidence concludes that Sapo wasn’t the only one who was in the killing of Salazar but bodega also was. Therefore Sapo kills him to shut him up about the investigation that was going on by Salazar.

ReplyDeleteHe is concerned because he is worried about his own safety. also he couldve been a part of it.Chino is concerned because he heard a bad conversation that bodega was having about Salazar.I can prove that when Bodega says " anything else you know , they kept mentioning a guy named Alberto Salazar " Also Salazar was investigating on drug lords and bodega is the only drug lord he know.So for bodega knowing him chino could be a part of the case. A bad conversation was a violent conversation to chino.Bodega would be worried if someone was investigating him. But chino helped him with lots of his stuff. So if he got caught chino would probably get reported.he thought its was bodega because , bodega bites. its proves when chino hears on channel 47 that "Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder .That when i knew who had killed him."

ReplyDeleteWell I'm pretty sure I know who killed Salazar, and Chino knows who did it too. Anyways, the killer is someone who is a bit expected to do this. I say this because this character was all the time heading in the wrong direction his whole life, between smoking, dealing and having people like Bodega as a companion, it was just a matter of time until he does something like this. I’m not trying to be stereotypical but I mean this person has no good in themselves. That’s just my opinion. Well let me just tell you who I think it was, I believe it was Sapo, Chino's best friend. why do I say this? Well if you see on page 82 and page one then you'll know what I mean. Well on page 82 it says," In addition to the gunshot wound, Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder." Then in page 1 it says," Sapo was always Sapo, and no one messed with him because he had a reputation for biting." Well as you can see the evidence clearly points to Sapo because he's known for biting when fighting. No one else in the block does that. It's like Sapo's signature thing. And like I said his own best friend knows it was him, Chino suspects it was him. So in the end Sapo is the number one suspect in this book to most of the reader and the character in the book.

ReplyDeleteSince Chino heard Bodega and Nazario mentioned Alberto Salazar Chino wondered to himself . Chino found very weird that the same guy that bodega and Nazario were talking about died . So Chino wanted to find out who did it he
probably thought it was either Bodega or Nazario . Chino said "I needed to find more , in case Alberto Salazar was the same guy I heard Bodega and Nazario talking about at the Taino Towers . So that's why Chino was surprised because in the news he heard that Alberto Salazar got killed by a gun shot and not only that but the victim had a struggle when he died . The news said that Alberto also got bitten by the killer . So that was the biggest clue for Chino because the only fighting style that uses biting was Sapo's . ReplyDeleteChino knows who killed Alberto Salazar because he over heard Nazario and Willie Bodega talking about him. It seemed like Nazario was giving him bad news about some business that he apparently turned down. When Willie was smiling and Nazario told him it was serious he stopped smiling. When they killed Salazar Chino said he needed to find out more about the topic incase he actually knew who did it. For example, where he said "in addition to the gun shot wound, Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder. That's when I knew who had killed him." This showed that chino knew who had killed him because in the past when Sapo would have fights he would bite. I think that Sapo probably killed Salazar for Willie Bodega because all of his men do different types of his dirty work for him. -carina
Why chino is concerned about Salazar death?
ReplyDeleteChino is concerned about who killed Salazar becasuse he think one of his friends have to do with the murder. and he really doesn't want that because them he gonna feel like he need to do something about it. One quote I choose was "but I need to find out more in case Alberto Salazar was the same guy I had heard bodega and Mazarin talk about that night on the Taino towers." This reveals how chino might be worried about who really killed Salazar because them he really need to be careful now who he trust.plus now them he's going to be suspicious and ask questin about the death to bodega in a smart way to really know who was it so he could not be worried about the death.

This shows that that night Nazario and Bodega where planning something that had to do with Salazar and then he ends up dead and all over the news.

"Sapo was always Sapo, and no one messed with him because he had a reputation for biting... Whass close to my mouth is mine by right and my teeth ain't no fucken pawnshop." (1) Sapo could have been the person who murdered Salazar. These are some reasons on the person who may have killed Alberto Salazar. -Marleny Nunez

This quote shows that Sapo killed Alberto Salazar because he has a reputation for biting and the drug lord in east harlem is Bodega which Sapo works for and Bodega doesnt want his plans to be ruined so he ordered Sapo to kill Alberto.
Why is Bodega so sure that Vera will Marry him?
ReplyDeleteBodega is so sure Vera will marry him because she never wanted to marry her current husband it was her mom that made her do it because he was rich. Also Bodega said they were basically perfect for each other and he sacrificed a goose for her. A quote that shows this is " Of course she'll leave that pendejo she never wanted to marry him in the first place. It was her fucken mother who pushed her... So much was promised to us when we left our island." This shows that he still loves her and has alot alot alot of hope for her to come back and marry him.

ReplyDeleteI knew once they said Alberto Salazar died Bodega had something to do with it. Here is why because when chino saw the news it said " The reporter for El Diario/ La prensa working on an investigation of a drug lord in East Harlem... Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder." but the thing with this is Bodega did not physically kill Salazar i think he sent Sapo because the news said that Alberto Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder and Sapo is basicly known for that but you can say Bodega has most of the blame at that point.

Sapo killed Salazar because on the body there was a bite mark. It says " Sapo was always Sapo, and we messed with him because he had a reputation for biting". This shows that Sapo most likely killed Salazar because he is known for biting people.

ReplyDeleteChino knows who killed Alberto Salazar because Salazar had a really bad bite mark and he remembered that Sapo when he fought he used to bite. He also remembered that name from when he went to talk to Bodega. Right around this time in the story Sapo asked Chino if he could do him a small favor when he dropped him off in El Museo Del Barrio. He never told Chino what it was but he didnt paid mind to it. Bodega wanted to talk to Chino about him marring Vera when she gets back. After that late at night, when Chino got home he turned on the television and saw that in the news it said that a man named Alberto Salazar had been found in the river dead. "In addition to the gunshot wound, Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder. That's when I knew who had killed him." (Quiñonez 82). This quote shows that Chino had a suspicion of who killed Alberto Salazar. He also had a feeling of who did it.
Is Willie Bodega gonna marry Vera?
ReplyDeleteI think Bodega will marry Vera because well of their past if she still feels the same as him it is possible she will leave that other guy as Bodega says here " Of course she'll leave that pendejo she never wanted to marry him in the first place. It was her fucken mother who pushed her... So much was promised to us when we left our island." What Bodega is saying here is explaining exactly Vera said that she will always love Bodega even if hes broke its that she was forced into marrying him but she didn't care if he didn't have money that she will always love him instead and that will never change.

Bodega insist that he will get Vera to get back with him even if she is married. He still thinks that she is in love with him. As bodega says "Of course she will leave that pendejo. she never wanted to marry him in the first place. It was her fucken mother who pushed her." This shows that Bodega is still angry at the fact that Vera's mom made them part ways and also it seems that Bodega will do anything to get back with Vera.

ReplyDeleteIn the story " Bodega Dreams" by Hernesto Quinonez Bodega is trying to take control of the buildings to prevent gentrification. It says " When they start moving in, we wont be able to compete when it comes to rent." This shows that Bodega is trying to maintain El Barrio for his people so hes trying to get all the buildings.
Give more context. Explain gentrification. This could be a good post if you developed your ideas further. 6.5/10
